Economic analysis lies at the heart of regulatory policy and is a prerequisite for effective regulation of the communications sector. Just as it shapes future policy and regulation, it also serves as the justification for existing frameworks as regulators seek to introduce competition where it has been lacking or address perceived market failures.

The Economic Regulation Master Class will help participants understand the core principles of economic regulation and covers the following main areas:
  • The Basis of Economic Regulation
  • Market Analysis
  • Market Assessment
  • Traditional SMP Remedies
  • Economics in Spectrum Management
  • Tariffs and Costing
  • Regulating Mobile
  • Revisiting Economic Principles
  • The Call Termination Debate
  • Access Regulation and Investment
  • The New USO Agenda
  • Challenges for Economic Regulation
  • Net Neutrality
Like the Regulatory course, the Economic Regulation Master Class also offers an introductory session on telecom networks aimed primarily at those with a non-technical background. These sessions are popular with delegates and explain how fixed and mobile networks operate, before then introducing Next Generation Networks and highlighting the key difference between these and legacy networks.
